UX Academy experience review

I enrolled in the UX Academy program last year, hoping to transition into a design career. The ordering process was straightforward online; I filled out the application and then got an acceptance email. Delivery of course materials is all digital, accessed through their platform, which was generally robust. My 1-on-1 mentorship was a highlight; my mentor, a senior product designer, gave actionable feedback on my projects. We met twice a week. The Designlab Community forum was okay for general questions, but dedicated support for technical issues could be faster. I completed several projects, built a portfolio, and even utilized their Career Services, which helped with resume reviews and interview prep. It's a demanding course, but I learned a lot.

Good course, needs better support

I signed up for UX Academy and found the content and mentorship really valuable. My mentor was excellent, providing thorough feedback on my projects and helping me refine my portfolio. The curriculum was comprehensive for a career change. My main critique would be that general support outside of the mentor felt a bit slow to respond at times. It took a while to get an answer about a payment plan query. Overall, a solid investment, but they could improve their administrative responsiveness.

Worth the investment

I was looking for a budget-friendly option to get into UX design and decided on UX Academy Foundations. The monthly payment plan was a big plus for me, making it manageable. I also managed to get an introductory discount which sealed the deal. I felt like I got a lot of foundational knowledge for what I paid. It definitely felt like a smart financial move for my career goals.

Learned a lot, pretty cool

So I took the UI Design course because I wanted to spruce up my skills. It was pretty straightforward to sign up. The lessons were easy to follow, and the mentor I got was super helpful, like, really good at explaining stuff. I actually feel like I learned a lot. It was a good experience, no real complaints.

Loved the Prototyping Workshop!

I just finished the Prototyping Workshop and it was fantastic! The instructor was so knowledgeable and made everything really clear. I learned so many new techniques that I can immediately apply to my work. The exercises were engaging and the feedback was constructive. I'm already looking at other courses they offer. Seriously, if you're thinking about it, just do it!

Anyone know if there are any real promo codes floating around for UX Academy? Or is it mostly just the scholarships they talk about?

W Wendy 2 months ago
i think it's mostly scholarships and referral links. I got a referral bonus when I signed up.

Yeah, I never saw any public coupon codes. Applied for a diversity scholarship and got a nice chunk off though. Check their site for that stuff, or if you know someone who went there, ask for a referral link.

Thinking about the UX Academy. Is it really worth the price tag compared to like, Coursera or something cheaper? Trying to figure out if the mentorship makes a huge difference.

B Ben Nguyen 2 months ago
totally worth it if you want to actually get a job. The 1-on-1 mentor thing is HUGE. Not just lectures.

Yeah, I did Springboard a few years ago and the mentor was key. Designlab's pretty similar in that aspect, and it def helped me land my first UX gig. You just get way more personalized feedback than a cheaper, self-paced course.
